38 Special

Think back to the 1980s, when rock music was big and the hair was even bigger. Fans will be “rockin’ into the night” with this year’s finale of the Rock the Block summer concert series in downtown Duluth. Fond du Luth Casino proudly presents 38 Special for a live concert on Superior Street Sept. 4.

The Southern rock band gained its reputation in the late ’70s and early ’80s with such big hits as “Caught Up in You,” “Hold on Loosely,” “Somebody Like You” and “Rockin’ Into the Night.” Since 1975, the band has released more than 15 albums, and they continue to tour, averaging about 100 shows a year.

38 Special has sold some 15 million albums, and got back into the recording studio in 2004 for the band’s first proper studio album in seven years, “Drivetrain.” The band will be putting on a free evening concert on the bricks of Superior Street, right in front of Fond du Luth Casino.

We are fortunate to have community-minded organizations such as Fond du Luth Casino within our midst downtown. It is what helps bring us together to further strengthen the heart of our city. Fond du Luth is sponsoring this blockbuster performance to celebrate its 23 years in downtown Duluth and it is the casino’s way of giving back to the community.

In the last two years, Fond du Luth Casino has drawn thousands of fans to the downtown with free concerts by nationally acclaimed performers Little River Band and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. This year should be no exception.

The word is out on the street, there’s plenty of buzz and we are looking forward to fans of all ages converging on the downtown for the casino’s block party. It has been a great summer in Duluth and we enjoy playing a role in promoting our downtown and what it has to offer.

Here’s yet another reason to stick around after work or make it your destination for a night out on the town. Visit the shops and restaurants, stroll the street, meet up with old friends and make some new memories. The hair isn’t as big anymore, but the rock music still has plenty of muscle.
