On behalf of our members, the Greater Downtown Council last year provided its support for converting avenues in the downtown from one-way traffic to two-way traffic. This was in an effort to improve traffic flow and eliminate confusion about one-way avenues in our central business district.
We are pleased that a conversion project has been approved and the City of Duluth is looking to implement the change on 1st, 2nd and 3rd Avenues West between Superior Street and West 4th Street this summer. On-street parking should not be affected.
More information will be provided by the City of Duluth in the coming week, but we wanted to make sure you were watching for details on this initiative. The first phase of the project is slated to begin in mid-May.
Not only will this improve traffic flow this year, but it will serve as a great tool during the Superior Street reconstruction in the coming years. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Taryn Erickson, Project Engineer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
